IEPs are necessary to evaluate some childrens inability to learn. IEPs are no true test that they work with all children who have them. However, other things much be considered, the child's learning disability, is it environmental, how long did the child's inability to learn in a normal capacity go undetected, etc. IEPs are helpful and important to a child's present and future learning. How long a child is on the program will determine how long he/she needs the modified education. At the same time, many parents experience the IEP development process as intimidating, frustrating, pointless and some parents live in denial..."My child does not have a learning disability, He's just a little slow." If your child is having difficulty keeping up in his/her class, it is up to the teacher and other professionals to find out what the issues are and act on them accordingly. I hope this helps, sign me an educator...
